Areas of Interest: Taxes


On this page one can access information about how different countries of the region are using new technologies in support of their taxation systems. We currently have materials regarding the applied solutions in the following countries: 


 Argentina 

The Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) offers users of their site the possibility of paying taxes, delivering transmissions and requests, and consulting on procedures. This includes a database of identified practices of the Development Innovations and Alliances Program of the OAS. If you wish to read more on this topic, click here


 Bolivia 

The National Taxation Service of Bolivia has developed different applications in order to facilitate the completion of taxpayer duties; for example, the Electronic Forms software is a means by which the citizen can easily accomplish their legal declarations. The electronic forms are an alternative to printed forms provided by the National Duties to their branch offices. To visit their portal on the internet, click here


Brasil 

Born out of the needs in this area of performance, the Serpro maintained it, permanently, as their area of preferential attention, in which the Secretariat of Federal Receipts is the main customer (SRF). In order to exclusively attend to the SRF, the Serpro created its greater and more complex Management Unit, the Administration of Business Oriented Tax Supervision – SUNAT, that has as a future vision to be “The best in information technology, for the success of customer SRF”. This challenge, calls for objectives of innovation, quality and security so that all information is available to the SRF pertaining to Collection, Taxation, Fiscalization and much more customer functions in an integrated form, endowed with technology, modern and efficient tools and instruments, with the intention of facilitating the process of collection, management and decision making, facilitating a closer treasury department-contributor relationship, as well as valuing the “right of the citizen”. 


Chile 

Since January 26th, 2005, a new information tool facilitating taxpaying completion has been offering Internal Tax Services (SII) to the economic taxpaying citizen agents. It is the Tributary Cartola of the Taxpayer document which can be obtained “online” at the Virtual Office of SII (www.sii.cl) and in which will be possible to obtain, in detailed and confidential form, the state of the taxpayer’s personal situation.  Ecuador 

The Presentation on the Internal Revenue Service of Ecuador, took place at the “e-Government: Transparency, Government and Citizen Participation” seminar, on 9th March, 2005. It details how the electronic invoice is applied, tax declaration via the internet, external business database, and the granting of previous import licenses.  El Salvador 

System of presentation of declarations and tax payments through the Internet. 


 Guatemala 

The program BancaSAT is the solution of tax payments implemented in Guatemala. At the end of 2002 more than 84% of the total tax communications presented for the year had been included by BancaSAT already. To download the Word document on this solution, click here


Jamaica 

Computerization of Jamaica's Tax Administration is an integral part of the modernization and reform process which began in the late 1990s and the Tax Administration Department, an agency of the Ministry of Finance, is now focusing on electronic service delivery of revenue generating processes. More information 

 México 

In agreement with their promoters, eSAT is an efficient solution and innovation in order to place new electronic services within the reach of taxpayers, that allows then to comply with their fiscal obligations in a direct, quick, simple, secure and comfortable way. Nicaragua 

To validate the declarations of Income Taxes; to liquidate the IR, to know the surcharges per hour when late in payments, to know when the payment dates are overdue and that the Income Administration does not work on local holidays and to measure the charges of the collections and the new services that the DGI website offers, which was financed by the modernization project of Taxpayer Administration that propels the GTZ of Germany. Perú 

The portal of the National Supervision of Taxpayer Administration (SUNAT) can be found divided in two sections: the taxpayer portal and the customs portal. Both tools are analyzed in a document that integrates the database of Good Practices of the Institute for Connectivity in the Americas. Uruguay 

The Main Tax Directorate is the Executing Unit responsible for the administration of internal taxes of the country. The institution has incorporated information technology with the objective of favoring the assistance to taxpayers by means of the extension of presentation mechanisms of the legal declarations and to look for, simultaneously, the strengthening of management by means of utilization of mechanisms that allow the administration of major volumes of information, with intelligent management of available resources.
